Letter to the readers



Dear Readers,

Once again we have a very special issue!!!! It contains the results of our recent contest, "Let’s Celebrate." So we are sure that everyone is anxious to know who are the winners. We received many lace pieces from all over Spain and the world - some very special, others very interesting, and all, well done. Unfortunately we were able to only choose three winners – first, second and third prize winners – but in the end we were forced to change the rules a bit.

The first prize winner is: Hana Humolova with, Wedding Doily. This beautiful and creative piece appears on page 17. If you look at it closely, you will see 4 doves, 8 lucky three leaf clovers, two gold wedding bands inside 2 hearts. It was chosen for its quality of workmanship, design and symbolism.

The second prize goes to Elidia Saez with, Silver Crown. We liked the idea of the silver tiara – something perfect for a bride.

Choosing third prize was a difficult task, since three entries seemed to be of equal artistic value. As a result we decided to award two third prizes. One third prize goes to the very original lace doll with veil made by Eva Pavlickova and Milada Fialova" including its comprehensive instructions. The original bride and groom bookmarks made by Maria Amalia Serrano were so good we just had to include them among our winners, so they became our second third prize winner.

Over time we have had many requests to publish / illustrate lace gloves, so here in this issue we finally honor those requests. In these pages you’ll find patterns for beautiful bobbin lace gloves, handkerchiefs, a beautiful lace fan, nightgown, and other surprises, all with their patterns.

Also in this issue we have some important news on our European Project in which La Encajera is a participant. We are pleased to announce that the book, "Lace an European Network" has been published in 5 languages, is now available. The book is a beautiful collection of lace examples that relate to lace history in each of the participating countries, France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia and of course, Spain. It contains laces and patterns from these countries. Contact us to reserve your copy as there are only a limited number of books published.
