Letter to the readers
First of all Iíd like to thank all our readers for your wonderful response to the last La Encajera edition, # 20, dedicated to Offida, Italy. We havenít stopped receiving requests for more copies from our distributors. It seems word is spreading and lace lovers from all over want a copy of this edition. The reports, the articles, the photos, the museum pieces, the lace maker statues and the 20 great patterns have combined to make #20 one of our best editions and also created a mad rush to get a copy of it.
Thank you all and remember our goal is to always try to please you with interesting articles and unique and diverse laces from all corners of Europe and the world.
To make sure that you continue having lots of fun we have dedicated this issue to the Third International Lace Event that took place in Javea, Alicante this past November 2002.
So get ready to feast your eyes on the magnificent six exhibitions that were presented in the Javea antique museum, art gallery and other corners of the seaside village of Javea in this # 21 edition. Also, five conferences took place for those of us interested in learning more about this fascinating world of lace, as well as many classes of diverse lace techniques.
Participants from fifteen (thatís one five!!!) different countries entered our flower contest. We received magnificent works accomplished with many varied techniques.
I was overwhelmed with the abundance of beauty!! We never imagined the contest was going to be so successful! Sixty-two pieces were ultimately received and exhibited in the museum. It almost seemed that each piece arriving was more spectacular. There was lots of suspense wondering which pieces would be chosen as winners.
We will share with you the personal experience of one, Maureen Tweedly, who was the final winner of the flower contest, coming to us all the way from Canada to participate in our lace event. Wow!!!
The prizes are illustrated on page 7. In this issue we show the winning pieces as well as some of the different types of lace flowers from the participants. These range from Thistle Trinitas on the cover, to brooches, bouquets, a cactus complete with needles, to a Spanish gated window with flowers.
Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all participants who, we may note, also received a diploma and gift, just for participating.
How wonderful you are, the readers of La Encajera! Thanks again for your contributions and dedication to our magazine, La Encajera.
Kind regards,Index
