Letter to the readers
Dear readers, Its time again for the birth of yet another La Encajera issue! This issue comes to you dressed in a pretty baby blue cover featuring a beautiful Catalan blonde lace flower - and of course, you can make it. Prepare lots of bobbins with fine thread to use your pattern for this delicate flower contained in our insert supplement section.
One of my favourite pieces of this issue is the red lace heart. Take a look on page 4, and I'm sure that you will like it also. We have some wonderful antique photos of Lacemakers from the town of Monovar featured on pages 6&7.
We know how much you enjoy seeing those antique photos.
This issue is full of doilies, three different ones. See them on pages 8, 16 and 17, and of course, the patterns are all included in our supplement. If a doily is not in your plans at this time we have a some pretty lace edging from Monovar that you can make on page 9. Some of us like to wear our lace, so on page 28 you will see a beautiful insert for a blouse that you can make.
We are very fortunate once again to have seen our friend Josep Plana taking part in a book presentation on page 11.
We have some photos of exhibitions some of you might have visited in Gramanets, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Marbella, Javea and the north of Spain. Our centerfold on pages 12 and 13 features a lovely swan whose design is once again available in our supplement.
You can prepare to celebrate a special occasion or New Year's Eve, by making yourself one of the elegant necklaces and/or a pair of earrings; make your choice on pages 20 and 21.
In this issue we feature the first of a series of interesting and informative excerpts taken from the "The Silk Roads" by Carmen Masdeu and Luz Morata.
We are sure you will enjoy reading and learning about the origins of this important textile.
We are already busy preparing the Third International Lace Event which will take place in Javea, Alicante, Spain, October 1st, November 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 2002. We want to give you plenty of time so you can plan your travel arrangements to attend. In the next issue we will give you more details about the classes and events. This is the time to prepare your submission for the contest of Lace Flowers, the rules are on page 30.
My very best wishes for many happy lace making hours,
Montserrat Arcos
