Letter to the readers
We are beginning a new millenium. What better way to celebrate than with La Encajera. La Encajera is also celebrating issue number 12!!!
In this issue we offer you a calendar to follow the new Millenium along with a lace pattern you can make.
To start off the new year we feature special and very beautiful alphabet letters, that all of you, our readers, have been asking for. The letters are made with white and gold threads. You can use the letters to personalize a favorite blouse or sweater, sew them on to a handkerchief, or on to a pretty cloth book cover, or use them to transform an ordinary set of towels or sheets into a very special set. That's just a few ideas of many that I am sure you will find for this special apphabelt found exclusively for La Encajera.
We want to wish each and every one of you much love and peace in this new year. To show you how much we love you, we celebrate St. Valentine's Day right here, in this issue. So we filled our pages with bobbin lace and tatted hearts, lovely symbols of love that can be used to personalize a greeting card, framed as a wedding gift, or simply used as a holiday decoration. With some imagination I am sure that you will find other ways of displaying them. Let's not forget to mention the handkerchiefs with hearts and doily with heart edging.
Still on the subject of love - we also love to tell you about interesting things. We explain how Galician linen is produced, from farm to factory. We also tell you about the various uses of linen and why many lace makers prefer to work only with linen thread. We have the whole linen story from Galicia starting on page 6.
For you tatters, we have some special hints and tricks along with the tatting instructions that we are sure will come in very handy.
We report on the lace day in Almagro and the lace day in Alicante.
We visited a group of lace makers in Nottingham. This group shared with us some of their beautiful Buckinghamshire lace and we offer three different adaptations of their delicate work by changing the stitches in the pattern. You can read about this group and see their work on pages 28-29.
Looking forward to issue number 13, you will enjoy the patterns for the remaining alphabet letters. We will also tell you all about the wonderful time that we all had at the Second International Lace Event in Javea. You will get to see photos of the spectacular winning fans from the fan contest.
May you begin this millenium with much health, love, happiness and time to make lots of lace!!!
