Letter to the Readers
Dear readers:
For some time now we have wanted to offer to those who love lace in Spain, a publication, in the form of either a newsletter, pamphlet or magazine, in order to unite, reflect and share all the talents spread out throughout the country. We also want to keep lacemakers informed about news and events related to lace, both in Spain and from other parts of the world.
We have much undiscovered lacemaking talent in our own country, in both the large and small communities. In some regions there is ample communication between lacemakers, but in other areas of Spain communication between lacemakers is more complicated. Large distances, day to day life, and careers are all factors which reduce the time lacemakers can work together and exchange ideas with other lacemakers from other areas. There are many lacemakers who want to learn more, who are anxious to see new patterns, learn new techniques, and to come to know the techniques used in other regions. Many others want to keep abreast of news, activities, shows and museum displays. Others want to know how to do a certain stitch, or find that certain book. These are some of the issues and topics that we will be covering in the upcoming issues of "La Encajera."
We are anxious to receive your letters. Tell us what you would like to see in your magazine, perhaps a certain pattern of something special that you cannot find, or a consultation about a certain technique. El Sueño de La Encajera is at your disposition. We intend it to be a forum and a means of communication for every lacemaker in Spain, and lacemaking affectionados and friends worldwide.
This month we are lucky to share with you the wisdom of Mr. Jordi Palomer, Director del Museo Mares de la Punta of Arenys de Mar, Barcelona. Apart from his interesting article, "What is Lace?" he has also agreed to allow us to publish a beautiful pattern of delicate lace called Ret-fi Català, also known as Punta d'Arenys.
We have an article about the VII Mostra d'Encaixe (seventh annual lace show) in Camariñas, Galicia. And just in time for summer, we provide the details about a lace summer school where one can stay in a rural country home in a tiny pueblo of Galicia while learning new lace techniques.
This issue contains unique patterns that both beginners and experts can enjoy making. This first issue is full of interesting subjects, even for those who have not yet learned to make lace. We have many interesting things planned for each one of our issues. Don't miss any!
